10DLC Compliance for Enterprise SMS

What is A2P 10DLC?

Application-to-Person 10-Digit Long Code (A2P 10DLC) is a dedicated messaging route for business SMS traffic in the United States. These are standard local phone numbers with area codes such as 415, 212, or 310, providing a familiar and localized messaging experience.

Once the 10DLC registration process is completed, businesses can send SMS messages with improved throughput and deliverability while benefiting from many of the advantages of Short Codes—without the higher costs or lengthy provisioning times.

Why does this regulation exist?

Mobile carriers introduced A2P 10DLC to:

  • Reduce spam and fraudulent messaging.
  • Clearly identify the sender of business messages.
  • Improve message deliverability.
  • Protect end users.
  • Allow higher messaging volumes for verified businesses.

Who must comply with A2P 10DLC?

Any business that sends SMS messages to United States phone numbers for purposes such as:

  • One-Time Passwords (OTP) / Verification Codes
  • Notifications
  • Reminders
  • Customer Support
  • Order Tracking Updates
  • Marketing Campaigns
  • Surveys
  • Appointment Confirmations
